Today we will be travelling by Coach to the Gulf Harbour ferry terminal. Located in the Hauraki Gulf, this island is a nature lover’s paradise.
Beyond native wildlife, Tiritiri Matangi is home to a 150-year-old lighthouse, a network of trail walks through lush coastal forest, plus pristine beaches and spectacular views.
On a 90 minute guided tour, you will be shown the kororā (little blue penguins) nesting boxes, plus the best spots to watch birdlife and how to identify the bird calls echoing through the trees. (A reasonable level of fitness is required. Walking tracks are either hard surface, grass, or boardwalks, with many wooden steps.) Learn about the exquisite wildlife, re-vegetation and history; visit New Zealand’s oldest lighthouse and finish at the visitor centre for complimentary tea and coffee.
